Encinitas looks forward all year to the day in early spring when the Arts Alive banners are finally revealed to the public during a spectacular gathering spotlighting our city’s talented arts community. Local top-producing realtor Janet Lawless Christ & Co. is this year’s title sponsor of Leucadia 101 Main Street’s 18 Arts Alive Banners. Never knowing exactly what subject artists will depict or the styles new artists will present, taking on the sponsorship of Leucadia’s banners requires an appreciation for the eclectic, quirky and unpredictable zest that drives our community’s imaginative spirit.
Janet Lawless Christ is an artist herself who found immense inspiration in San Diego’s natural beauty as a college student visiting UCSD from Georgetown University. She remembers the glimpse that secured her immense love for the California coastline, “I got to my dorm room that overlooked La Jolla Shores and out over the pristine, perfect Pacific ocean, I picked up the phone and told my family “I am NEVER coming back.” 41 years later, her love for north county has only increased as her knowledge of all the individual quirks and character of each community deepens. Her solid gold reputation as a realtor derives from the inspiration sparked all those years ago and the heart-to-heart connections made with friends and clients all over southern California.
Leucadia made an impression on Janet for ‘The casual diversity, friendly vibe and the pure sense of joy that pulses throughout the community.’ She describes an optimistic spontaneity that is part of the excitement of spending time here “The prospect that the best is yet to come is an attitude easy to embody in Leucadia.”
An appreciation for Leucadia’s deep roots as a haven for artists and creatives was kindled when she discovered Leucadia Art Gallery and Corner Frame Shop on Small Business Saturday. Drawn in by owner Morgan Mallory’s impeccable craftsmanship, she learned more and more about Leucadia’s emphasis on the arts with events such as the historic LeucadiART Walk and the annual Arts Alive Banner Program in partnership with the 101 Artists’ Colony.
The Leucadia Farmer’s Market gives Janet an excuse to spend every Sunday here and the more time she spends on Highway 101 between Encinitas Boulevard and La Costa Avenue, the more she finds to appreciate. Coffee Coffee, French Corner, Solterra Winery & Kitchen, Surfy Surfy and Birdseye Kitchen embody what Janet loves about the unpretentious, friendly and joyful vibe of the community. The dedicated business owners behind these establishments who put their heart into their work resonates with the way Janet runs her business. “We intentionally go above and beyond for our clients. We strive to be the best and do the most and that means that most clients wind up as close friends. I babysit their children and help them out when they’re in a bind. We are authentic and unceasingly protective of our clients who entrust us with their most precious, valuable asset in an emotional time of buying, selling and moving!” Janet’s rank in the top 1% internationally for the Coldwell Banker Presidential Premiere comes from fostering meaningful relationships that keep clients coming back for decades.
Sponsoring the 2017 Arts Alive banners was an easy choice for Janet as she explains, “Leucadia is a magnet for me and I find Leucadia to be a place of solace, I am truly HONORED to support public art in Encinitas because the arts support our souls!”
