At the recent City Council meeting held on January 13,2010 the City Council voted to adopt a streetscape design for Leucadia's Hwy 101.  The design calls for:  a total of 1,111 trees (over 900 new trees and retaining 92% of existing trees); 5 roundabouts; wider sidewalks; reduction of one northbound lane, which will allow a northbound bike lane, walking trail, trees and landscaping on the east side of the highway; southbound bike lane, and a combination of parallel and back end diagonal parking.

The Council directed staff to present  a different Phase I than what the plan calls for.   Phase I has been considered the length of highway from A Street to North Court. Instead, staff will look at improvements within the entire length of the highway that can be made during the first phase that make sense to do sooner than later. Suggestions are planting all the trees and  installing sidewalks and streetlights in the north end of the highway.  Council also asked staff to look at fewer roundabouts and perhaps a trial run on back end diagonal parking on a secondary street somewhere to give people a chance to try it out and see if they like this before implementing on Hwy 101.
