FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

The New Year Means a New Entry Sign for Leucadia

LEUCADIA‹The long awaited entry sign for Leucadia will be unveiled and a dedication will be held on March 21st at 1 p.m. The location is on the west side of North Coast Hwy 101, just south of La Costa Blvd. New landscaping will also be added to enhance the northern entryway to Encinitas.

This new entry sign project began in 2004 with a community-wide design contest, inviting people to submit their ideas for the sign. The Leucadia 101 Main Street Board of Directors and City Staff selected five finalists, with one winning design by Diane Cauchon.

Since that time, the design has had some structural modifications to accommodate required needs so that the 7-foot tall sign is sturdy, weather resistant and long lasting. But the overall look of Ms. Cauchon's design of a flower decorated surfboard lying on its side with Welcome to Leucadia written across it in fun, stylized lettering remains as she envisioned.

Quick Crete Concrete Products of Norco, California is the company making the sign. After the sign installation, the landscaping will go in and volunteers are needed to help plant the 300-plus draught tolerant plants. Yes, this is history in the making, and the fun begins on Saturday, March 11th at 8:30 a.m., rain or shine. Volunteers will need to bring their own long handled shovel, hand trowel, gloves, kneeling pad, and drinking water and should wear comfortable clothes and shoes. The area to be planted is approximately 10 feet by 100 feet, and if there is a good volunteer turnout, it shouldn't take too long. If interested, please call the Leucadia Main Street office at 760-436-2320 for more details.

The Leucadia Hwy 101 Main Street Association is a non-profit organization that formed in 2003 and is dedicated to the historic preservation and revitalization of Leucadia's North Highway 101 Corridor.
