George and Viola Harris started Harris Radiator in 1947. The original small shed was behind Grice, Lund and Tarkington on D street in Encinitas. George moved Harris Radiator to 215 Melrose in the 50's. He operated an old-fashioned radiator repair business that included drinking coffee and telling tales to the locals. On February 1st, 1978, George Harris sold the business to David and Kristin Peters. David was a Mercedes and Porsche technician at Del Mar German Car Service for several years and currently has over 40 years of mechanical knowledge and expertise. He brought with him a new outlook with his general automotive background. David's reputation for honesty and integrity has brought many repeat customers over the years. Air-Conditioning as well as the complete cooling system became a specialty. The business continued to grow. In need of more space, the shop moved to its current location at 274. N Coast Hwy 101 in 1990. Harris Radiator Works and Air-Conditioning also does light general auto repair.
