Leucadia 101 Main Street Association is partnering with the San Dieguito Academy High School Water Polo Club for a Macaroni and Cheese boxed food drive benefiting Got Your Back San Diego. The drive kicks off May 5 at 11:00 am with live music at The Leucadia 101 Battle of the Bands at Seaweed and Gravel. The community is invited to this free family event featuring young musicians. Donations of family size or single serving shelf stable macaroni and cheese can be dropped off at the Battle of the Bands event between 11:00 am and 3:00 pm on May 5th. The Macaroni and Cheese drive will run for two weeks, ending May 19.
The Leucadia 101 Main Street office, located at 386 North Coast Highway 101 in Encinitas, will host a collection box throughout the two-week drive. Macaroni and Cheese donations can be dropped off at the Leucadia 101 office Monday through Friday 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. Collection boxes will also be at the following Leucadia 101 business members: Seaweed & Gravel, 1144 North Coast Highway 101, Wednesday through Sunday from 11:00 am to 6:00 pm; Bing Surfboards, 974 North Coast Highway 101, Monday through Sunday from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm; Corner Frame Shop & Leucadia Art Gallery, 1038 North Coast Highway 101, Tuesday through Saturday from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm; and Fully Loaded Micro Juicery, 466 North Coast Highway 101 #5, Monday through Sunday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.
Got Your Back San Diego is a weekend food assistance program developed specifically for children who do not have reliable access to a sufficient amount of affordable, nutritious food. They fill backpacks with two breakfasts, two lunches, two dinners, and a few healthy snacks, enough food to sustain a child throughout the weekend. Backpacks are given to children at school to take home for the weekend.
“I thought the boxed food drive was a good way for our Water Polo Club to work with the local community and benefit a great cause,” said Club President Dylan Herrera, a senior at SDA and Co-captain of the Boys Varsity Water Polo Team. “I interned at Leucadia 101 Main Street last summer assisting with event planning for the LeucadiArtwalk. So, I knew the staff and some of the merchants.”
The SDA Water Polo Club mission is to support both the girls and boys water polo teams, bond with school mates, and participate in community service work. It is open to all students. The school club is overseen by Jamie Duck who teaches World History and Psychology and is also the Water Polo Homeroom teacher.
The Leucadia 101 Main Street Association is a non-profit community-based organization that works in partnership with its neighborhood, business owners, property owners, the City of Encinitas and the County of San Diego to preserve and revitalize the Leucadia North Coast Highway 101 Corridor. They offer a wide variety of events each year that are aimed at creating a unique atmosphere for their residents to explore the community and stimulate the local economy.
